Mofan Amber Dai (b. 2000) is a composer, hornist and recorder enthusiast based in New York. Amber has exposed themself to a wide range of musical styles throughout their life, including choral, classical, jazz and improvisation, all of which left traces in how they write and how they play. They hold a Bachelor of Music from St. Olaf College and Master of Music from Boston Conservatory at Berklee, both in composition. Amber is currently pursuing their second masters degree in contemporary horn performance at Manhattan School of Music, studying with Kevin Newton. During their years of music making, Amber explored extended techniques, performing with electronics and unconventional chamber ensembles, both in composing and performing. Their writing considers practicality while pushing boundaries of sounds, taking inspiration from everything from color and touch to emotions and memories. Described as “honest and vulnerable,” their music bring an immersive experience that creates space for feelings to be articulated and heard.
